February 19, 2017 | Matthew 5:38-48 | Violence all around our world, civil unrest, lives lost unnecessarily. In this Sermon Jesus tries to point out that violence happens when we put on blinders of good and bad, right and wrong, when we see people as either with us or against. Even hearing what Jesus has to suggest and knowing what Jesus hopes for, how can we ever begin to love someone who has harmed us though? Are there limits to what we take from others?
February 12, 2017 | Matthew 5:21-37 | The things that people will do when they have been wronged. Have you ever found yourself telling stories of how you pushed back, gave just punishment, insisted on your rights, even rebuked someone with crushing words? This got me thinking about the text we’ll hear in this Sermon from Matthew’s gospel. The words we hear are a bit shocking but also refer to a group of people who are faced with a mess of conflict of their own.
